Admissions

If you would like your child to attend our school, please see full details of our admission arrangements below.

It provides information about:

  • admission policies and over subscription criteria for Gateshead schools;
  • how places are offered;
  • the number of applications received and the number of places offered for previous years.
  • you must submit your application by 15 January 2020

Admission age ranges for September 2020 

If your child was born between 1 September 2015 and 31 August 2016 Your child is due to start reception class in September 2020. You can apply online for a school place from 9 September 2019 until 15 January 2020.
If your child was born between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 If your child attends an infant school, they are due to start junior school in September 2020. You can apply online for a junior school place from 9 September 2019 until 15 January 2020.

Reception and junior admissions timeline

9 September 2019 Online system opens for parents to apply 
15 January 2020 Closing date for submitting applications
16 April 2020 Offer letters and emails sent to parents
30 April 2020 Parents must accept places by this date
11 May 2020 Any places that become available will be offered from the schools waiting list
June/July 2020 Appeals heard

Secondary Admission Dates – September 2020

 

 

  1. 9 September 2019 – Primary/Junior Schools distribute letters to year 6 pupils. The online admissions system opens for Gateshead parents to apply.
  2. 31 October 2019 – Closing date for submitting online applications.
  3. 18 November 2019 - Copies of all application forms are distributed by the Local Authority to voluntary aided secondary schools for them to verify and prepare their ranked offer list.
  4. 7 January 2020 - Voluntary aided secondary schools must provide the Local Authority with a ranked list of all applicants in potential offer order.
  5. 24 February 2020 - The Local Authority notifies all secondary schools of the pupils to be allocated places at their school. Primary and Junior Schools will also be provided with a list of the secondary school destinations of their year 6 pupils.
  6. 2 March 2020 – Email and letters sent to Gateshead parents informing them of the outcome of their application
  7. 13 March 2020 - Parents should accept places by this date.

 
Waiting lists for all oversubscribed secondary schools will operate from 23 March 2020. Any vacancies which arise will be allocated to parents on 23 March 2020 and on a weekly basis thereafter.
