Admission to Primary School Booklet [563.52KB] before you apply to help you understand the admissions process and make an informed choice.
It provides information about:
- admission policies and over subscription criteria for Gateshead schools;
- how places are offered;
- the number of applications received and the number of places offered for previous years.
We recommend you apply to three schools. Applying for only one school does not improve you chance of gaining a place at this school
Your child's attendance at a school or private nursery does not guarantee or improve your chances of gaining a place at your chosen school.
If you rank a school outside Gateshead as one or more of your preferences you must look at the admission policy for that school before submitting your application.
You must apply by 15 January 2019.
Admission age ranges for September 2019
| If your child was born between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015 | Your child is due to start reception class in September 2019. You can apply online for a school place from 10 September 2018 until 15 January 2019. |
| If your child was born between 1 September 2011 and 31 August 2012 | If your child attends an infant school, they are due to start year 3 in September 2019. You can apply online for a junior school place from 10 September 2018 until 15 January 2019. |
Reception and junior admissions timeline
| 10 September 2018 | Online system opens for parents to apply |
| 15 January 2019 | Closing date for submitting applications |
| 16 April 2019 | Offer letters and emails sent to parents |
| 30 April 2019 | Parents must accept places by this date |
| 10 May 2019 | Any places that become available will be offered from the schools waiting list |
| June/July 2019 | Appeals heard |
