Welcome to our Nursery page.
We cater for children from 2 years old up to Pre-school children (4 years old). We are the very beginning of the Ryton Federation education journey. We work very closely with the staff and children in the Infant and Junior building to support transition for later years but to also to provide a vast range of experiences from a young age.
We have a dedicated team of staff who pride themselves on following the same aim of supporting each child's development to reach the best outcomes. We challenge each child to extend their learning and development by building on what they know and can do. We encourage and teach children how to be independent and creative, critical thinkers. We help them to develop a love of learning. Teachers and experienced Teaching Assistants work closely with the children to enhance learning experiences in all areas of the curriculum and provision we offer. Whilst the the team work with and care for all children, each child has a key person for small group time. We work in partnership with parents/carers and external agencies in order to provide the best possible start for each and every child in our care.
"Adults observe children carefully and build upon their interests. Activities and resources are chosen carefully to capture children’s interest and enthusiasm."

We provide all children with opportunities for free flow play and exploration. This means the children can choose to be indoors or outdoors across the school day. We were very lucky to secure a lottery grant to develop our outdoor area which was tailored to support all areas of the development matters framework. In addition to our fabulous outdoor area we are lucky to have access to to our on-site forest area, hens to look after and hill area to explore. The children are given the opportunity to take part in a plan, do, review session in the natural environment. This allows the children to explore and develop their knowledge of the natural world through the use of all their senses. Within our forest school sessions we encourage the children to be as independent as possible; from dressing themselves appropriately to taking charge of their own and their friends safety.
"Teachers have developed a highly stimulating and exceptionally well resourced woodland area a short distance from school where children are inquisitive and curious and show excellent levels of concentration."
"Safeguarding practices in the early years are highly effective. Children are taught how to manage risks from an early age, including in the woodland area."
