WELCOME TO 6AB!

Summer Term

Gorilla Class have so much to look forward to this term. Our English studies will continue to extend our creative and formal writing, working on story plots using dialogue in the fantasy genre, information texts about endangered creatures, letter writing and finding our voices through poetry. In history, we will be learning about events leading up to World War II and find out about what life was like in Britain during this period. In geography, we will explore different climates, in particular the polar biomes, and we will be exploring animal habitats and the classification of living things, as well as the human circulatory system, in science. There will be plenty of French, music, art and technology too. The children will be in charge of planning their enterprise stalls and games for the 'Juneboree' and, of course, there will be plenty of PE and sport to get involved in. Let the summer fun commence!

History trip to Beamish

A fantastic day was had by all when we visited the brilliant Beamish Museum in County Durham. Our focus was to further our studies of local mining history which included the tragedy of the Felling Pit disaster in 1812. We had an 'explosive' workshop where we witnessed the dangers of gas building up in the seams, learnt more about the crucial invention of the Davy and Geordie lamps and also about the terrifying job of the penitent man. The children then turned detectives, investigating the truth behind a terrible pit accident involving a boy of just twelve. They grilled the management of the mine and asked pertinent questions of the local villagers and pit workers to uncover the grim truth of the incident. Afterwards, we were lucky enough to take a trip into the mine, visit the school, and finally, a short walk to the old town allowed us to find treats at the bakery and sweet shop. A tram ride back to the bus was well worth waiting for! If you know, you know! An amazing day to finish off the Spring term.

Chance to Shine Cricket Coaching

We have loved having cricket coaching with Chance to Shine Foundation's coach, James. We have practised batting technique, improved our bowling and fielding skills and had a ton of fun. Thank you, James!
