Positive, Respectful and Safe

Miss Baker - REB

We have been reading the story Handa’s Surprise. We prepared and tried some of the fruits from the story: pineapple, orange, mango and avocado. We used some excellent vocabulary to describe the taste and texture.

We have revised our number bonds to 5 this week and made our own arrangements using cubes.

We had a skipping workshop today!

We learned how to use the BeeBots and control them around maps.

We had a fantastic visit to our forest this afternoon! We explored each area and learned how to play safely then enjoyed a story in the fire circle.

This week we have been learning all about road safety. We had a very special visitor today, Miss O’Brien, our lollipop lady came. We had discussed and wrote some questions for her and enjoyed learning all about her important job.

What a fantastic first session we had with Little Kickers!

In our music session today we had a fabulous time playing instruments and exploring which instruments we tap, shake and scrape. We then enjoyed them in our play!

We have been doing some Spring planting! We are excitedly tracking the growth of our plants each day.

We made representations of 9 and 10 using a variety of resources.

We built staircase towers representing the one more and one less pattern of numbers 1 to 5

We created double dot paintings!

We enjoyed making cakes to support our learning of mass and capacity in maths.

This week in maths we have been exploring mass and capacity. We loved building our own boats and testing how many multilink cubes they could hold before they sank.

We were so excited to go on the bench today in gymnastics! We learned how to get on and off safely and how to walk across whilst maintaining balance.

We have started our new Gymnastics unit in PE. We worked together on the mats to make different shapes and balances with our bodies.

We have had such a lovely week settling back into Reception!

We have had a very festive day enjoying the snow and decorating our Christmas tree!

We went on a shape hunt outside! We found lots of circles, triangles, rectangles and squares.

We concluded our learning of The Little Red Hen by making our own bread rolls.

In our maths sessions we have been learning all about repeating patterns. We have made repeating patterns using objects, movements and sounds. We have been learning how to copy, continue, create and correct repeating patterns. We then applied our understanding to make our own repeating pattern fruit skewers. We even peeled, chopped and skewered the fruit ourselves.

Reception are having a fantastic first half-term! This week in our literacy sessions we have become fabulous storytellers and have learned to tell the story of The Little Red Hen using story language and actions. In our maths sessions we have investigated lots of different types of measures: length, height, mass and capacity. We have also started practising our poem that we will perform at our Harvest Festival assembly. Finally, we have spent lots of important time playing, exploring our interests and developing friendships.
